a bathing room

This was a hugely enjoyable project to do.

I was brought in at an early stage to design the shape and size of the room and was given free reign to create a space that was serene and beautiful.

Some of the walls were old lime render which has a lovely natural finish. Working with old ship timber beams we applied liming wax which enhanced the grain and softened the yellowing. The limestone floor was under heated and is simply beautiful with flecks of ancient sea shell visible up close.

Matching the roll top bath, I sourced a cast iron vanity top from a company in America and furniture was handmade from sycamore and oak. The Wall panelling was made from locally grown oak and scribed to the underside of the wall beams, again we finished it by brushing out and lime waxing the grain.

All the taps and fixtures were in Silver Nickel & made by Catchpole & Rye in Kent and to source wall lights to match was presented as a challenge until I came upon beautiful but decayed Art Deco lights Iā€™d saved from a previous job. I had them re-plated in matching silver nickel and they worked perfectly in the space.

My favourite part of the project was designing and commissioning the work of master craftsman, Dan Hussey to make the steamed curved Ash bi-fold shutters. While a small addition, it brings a unique and beautiful touch to the space.
